Im Zusammenhang mit Artikeln zum Thema "Cloud Computing" wird immer wieder die Creative Commons Lizenz ins Spiel gebracht. Mike Linksvayer hat auf CreativeCommons.org zwei aktuelle Cloud-Computing-Diskussionen zusammengetragen, in denen die Creative Commons Lizenz eine Rolle spielt:

- Sun plant offene APIs unter CC
- Microsoft möchte das Open Cloud Manifesto unter CC

Greift man die zentrale These des Open Cloud Manifestos auf, also freie und für alle zugängliche, interoperable Technologie-Standards, so dürfte eine freie Lizenz schon beinahe zwingend dazu gehören.
