Spionage-Software statt Open Source?

Sinn und Zweck
von Open Source ist ja die kontinuierliche Weiterentwicklung eines Projekts. Das gemeinsame Schaffen besserer Software. So weit hatte ich die Geschichte bisher verstanden. Das das funktioniert, beweist zum Beispiel das Open-Source-Projekt Firefox. Dieser Browser hat sich als Hauptkonkurrent zu Microsofts Internet Explorer etabliert. Darüber hinaus existieren dank Open-Source zahlreiche Erweiterungen (Addons), mit denen die Funktionalität erweitert werden kann. Eine Open-Source-Erfolgsgeschichte.
Eine neue Firefox-Weiterentwicklung lässt mich stutzen: Swiftfox http://getswiftfox.com/, der dem Vernehmen nach eine Codeoptimierung für die unterschiedlichsten Prozessoren enthält. Hier liest man weiter

(...) Binaries provided by getswiftfox.com are not licensed MPL and therefore are not freely distributable. The license to use Swiftfox extends to the user that downloads Swiftfox from this web site. No one may repackage or redistribute Swiftfox binaries in any form without prior permission. (...)

Keine freie Verteilung, kein Einbauen in Distributionen nur die Lizenz, das der herunterladende Nutzer Swiftfox nutzen darf. Die Begründung erfolgt sogleich:

(...) Please also note that the licensing restrictions were put in place to safeguard Swiftfox users against the possibility of obtaining tainted versions from anyone who may wish to maliciously alter the binary and redistribute it.

Das ganze geschieht aus Sicherheitsgründen, damit kein schädlicher Code eingebaut und weiterverteilt wird. Was das bedeutet, hier noch einmal im Klartext:

(...) Yes, that makes Swiftfox "non-free" in the Debian sense but it will always be free of charge to all users. If anyone has a better solution I would be glad to hear it.

Ja, Swiftfox ist nicht frei aber kostenlos...

Open Source ist gerade deswegen sicher, das niemand den Entwicklern blind vertrauen muss. Sie haben eine Situation geschaffen, dass niemand sicher sein kann, dass Sie keine Sicherheitslöcher eingebaut haben und wir müssen Sie beim Wort nehmen. Es folgt noch ein Verweis auf Microsoft's Praktiken ... (..)
